Tools required: hacksaw, measuring tape, and screwdriver.
Prior to installation, make sure that your gutter is clear of debris. We recommend using the gutter wedge from our accessory web page to keep the gutter free from leaves, sticks, and other debris. Since water flows downhill, select a downspout that will allow for a downhill slope for soaker hoses.
After you have located an appropriate downspout from which to collect rainwater, prepare a strong and level base for it to be installed, keeping in mind that the downspout will be turned at the bottom so water can flow into the top of the unit. When the RainPro™ is full of water, it weighs over 900 pounds, so we stress the importance of a level, sturdy base. Acceptable bases include concrete blocks, pavers, or a patio-type surface.
When preparing to install the base, elevate it at least four inches off the ground. This will provide additional water pressure, make the down spigot more accessible, and will allow the soaker hose to be easily connected and operated.
The downspout must be shortened so that it empties onto the top of the RainPro™. Cut the downspout gutter with a hack saw so that when the elbow or downspout diverter is attached, the bottom of the downspout outlet is approximately 4 inches above the RainPro™. This will make removing the lid much easier. Downspout components are available from our website or can be purchased at most hardware stores.
Each RainPro™ comes with the following items: 2 – brass spigots, Teflon tape, a high capacity overflow hose, 1- SS band clamp, 2 sets – galvanized nuts, bolts, and washers.
Storage capacity can be doubled or tripled by utilizing additional RainPro™ units. After properly preparing the base for additional units, connect the overflow hose into another RainPro™ overflow port. Units can be connected together so that once the first RainPro™ reaches capacity the overflow will carry the additional water to a second or third RainPro™.
After deciding which of the two overflow ports you will use, use your hacksaw to cut off approximately ½ inch of the end section of that port. Place the high-capacity overflow hose over the port and secure with the supplied band clamp. Affix the lid to the top of the RainPro™ and secure it using the galvanized nuts, bolts, and washers.
Once the downspout has been prepared, the RainPro™ can be placed on the prepared base. Apply two wraps of Teflon tape to the spigot threads on both spigots. Thread one spigot into the bottom-threaded insert – pointing the spigot opening to the right or left, depending on the location of your soaker hose. Thread the other spigot into the upper threaded insert, again using the Teflon tape. Do not over tighten. This will cause your unit to leak.
You are now ready to collect and use rainwater for your home.
| Warning: |
Do not drink rainwater. It is not potable. |
| Warning: |
Your RainPro™ is not a toy. Do not allow anyone, especially children, to play in or around it. Drowning can result. Other serious injury/death is possible due to tipping over a 900-pound water tank. |
| Warning: |
Always keep the lid secured unless you are cleaning the unit. |
